I mix the gloss and matte together. I wouldn't consider the matte version to be high gloss. Both the matte and gloss version have the same look and color enhancing properties. To me the difference is that with the gloss you get a very reflective sur…
Rich,
I agree with Brandon on all his points. Except I prefer a 50/50 dilution. Other trhan that my protocal is the same. If you were spraying E32K then you will find EAP very easy to spray. Verticles are perfect. You have to resist overspraying, a…
Alla,
I have had major problems with old DA. I am in Florida. Major humidity in the summer. Not that much of an issue in the winter when we are a bit drier.
My problem was with the moisture in the DA causing a beading issue when sprayed and just n…
It really is not that difficult if you are using GFRC. 3/4" panels can be made and thinset to tile backer board. Proper reinforcing and good planning. There is another thread on this site that has some detail about the project I did.
These are a…
I dilute either 1:1 or 1.5:1 denatured alcohol to EAP. I spray what consists of a wet on wet application. Or wet on wet on wet if I do the 1.5:1 dilution. Both works great for me. Getting the gun settings right and spray technique will be the key to…
Brandon,
Your biggest problem was trying to seal 1 hour after wet polishing. In time you will get a feel for how many days after casting that you will be able to seal. Putting acrylic in your mix won't really matter. Mix design, water to cement rat…
Alla,
That is an awesome looking counter and sink.
What did you use to to form the curves?
I also cast on steel. My steel tops are just plain hot rolled steel 3/16" thick. I wax the surface then apply 880 VOC form release before casting. I spray…
Kasper,
I cast with Qwix and portland. 15% loading of qwix. GFRC mix with sprayed face coat. Last 2 jobs I did, I cast on Monday then sealed on Thursday and installed on Friday. I have had no issues with that. I think there are issues that come int…
Eciton,
Are you using white cement? I get these with white cement. I find it more as the cement ages. My feeling is that they are particles of cement that have reacted from moisture over time and hardened like Al mentioned. I sift all my cement for…
I would look at your mix design. Total cement binder in relation to your aggs. Did you account for the solids content of the liquid Z? Never used counterflow, but it may not be as strong as other plasticizers with relation to workability. And are yo…
Alla,
What would you consider to be a poraver heavy mix. Currently I am substituting out 18% of my sand with the 1mm - 2mm size poraver. Do you think that is too much. I have not had any problems, but have not done any free spans longer than a dish…
Yes all spray facecoats. Then a thin layer of fiber backer mix, then the scrim. I tried putting the scrim right on the spray face coat and had some ghosting. So, I roll in a thin layer of backer mix then the srim went in, so it is probably more like…
Thanks.
I did a sprayed face coat so I would not have any trouble with the fibers.
This was a straight portland mix. Just white portland and VCAS, No rapid set or CSA or acceleraters. I have no concerns with stripping after 18 to 24 hours. I just d…

Hey James,
My Poraver is sitting on a shelf for now. Since I wet-cast gfrc, I find that it's really not good on the surface. It also releases a lot of air into the concrete, and I am still looking for a better defoamer than tri-butyl phosphate. I wouldn't use it on anything that will be subject to surface abrasion, or spans of more than 3 ft between supports. If you're spraying a face coat and are not doing unsupported overhangs, you should be OK. But it does make the concrete more likely to deform under its own weight.
