Silicone caulk is a type of rubber. It feels terrible to the touch, it degrades with age and if you used regular, acetoxy silicone, it won't even cure on concrete. It's like rubbing clear tar on the surface.
good luck, we ran into a warehouse that had been a granite factory over 20 years ago and they had used a silicone sealer in the process of manufacturing the countertops. As a result everything we put on the floor came up. I mean even water would jum…
This is the Mixer we have used for all of our wet cast stone products. Will mix a batch in 90 Seconds. I have had it now for 8-9 years now and it shows no sign of quitting anytime soon!! A bit spendy but it is a machine that will last forever!! We n…
Rich, I missed this a while back. I actually have this CRITTER, although I don't think it will work for GFRC - no high shear action here. I use this mixer to make all my wet cast sample batches. It's nothing fancy, but it hasn't given me any problem…
I find that CSA mixes incorporate curing water very quickly. When we polish, we always finish dry, and that removes moisture from the surface. I've had no issues with EAP, even when applied on the same day as we polished wet. I still wait 4-5 hours…
Kasper,
I cast with Qwix and portland. 15% loading of qwix. GFRC mix with sprayed face coat. Last 2 jobs I did, I cast on Monday then sealed on Thursday and installed on Friday. I have had no issues with that. I think there are issues that come int…
Hi Alla,
how long do you wait before sealing with EAP. Bob said 5 days after pouring. So I have pretty much stuck to that. But I would like to go sooner. I use a HPC CSA mix and I demold after 12-18 hours and polish right away. Otherwise the stuff…
COOL! Thanks Alla, that totally answered what I was asking before! I have a project to do ASAP that this will work perfect for. I wet cure forever and a day anyway, so that is great. Hey, when you are wet curing and working on a piece do you mainly…
OK, Jon, let's just leave it at that.
I'd like to get back to the original topic of this post - people seem to be confusing Liquidz and the traditional gfrc polymers, Forton and Polyplex. As far as I'm concerned, LZ makes an excellent gfrc polymer,…
I do remember you mentioning that before, you had used....or tried to use....it as an addition to your mix. Just like we usually all use fibers, as an addition. This is something I do not suggest, I can see how that would have sent your mix off the…
Jon, it's not the chemistry of wollastonite that causes problems, it's the size and shape of the fibres. They stop the flow of concrete in its tracks. As soon as I added them to my mix, I had to triple my super-p dosage and increase water by at leas…
Dave,
Qwix is a dark buff color....there really isn't any real recomended loading. Base your loading on set time. Since you have not used it, I would suggest starting with a lower amount....5-10% of your portland. This will give you about 30-60 min…
My name is Alex. I saw in the forum that Tony Abba was asking for used copies of DVD's or instructional videos on concrete contertops and you reply saying that you may be able to help him. I'm new to all this and also trying to educate myself on the "art" of building concrete countertops. I made a small vanity top for the bathroom using regular concrete and my wife loved it so now I have to do the kitchen. 'Im in need of direction, should I go with Gore's DVD, maybe Cheng's? Any help will be greatly appreciated. There's a lot information on this forum but a lot of it is very confusing to me.
