I don't know what the fuss is all about, it really is quite easy.

Well done. I am told that to have custom concrete counter tops is nearly as expensive as granite

If you do it right, it will last 2000.

Several years ago I watched one of those Saturday morning home improvement shows and they remodeled a kitchen including a concrete countertop. I don't remember the guys name, but he's famous, and he acted like it was easy.
Easy unitl, they took the countertop out of the mould and it was cracked big time. They eneded the show by saying they were going to re-pour another countertop.
Permalink Reply by collette dotson on February 12, 2012 at 2:29pm I really don't think anyone is trying to take away from ur art, those of us who like to do and learn and try, its as simple as that... i hope to have a shop one day with all of the fun toys so i can experiment and create some truly beautiful pieces that r not just for function... there is no reason to s*** on other people who have found a small piece of the concrete world for themselves... there is no way ur flying ur lil shop all over there friggin world to build countertops for everyone... CHILL OUT!
Permalink Reply by collette dotson on February 12, 2012 at 2:46pm see, now i don't understand why u would want to take the word concrete away... raw and natural is back in a severe way! u can't more earthy than concrete! Noone wants granite anymore because its the builder grade now! u go to the store and pick it out... people want the man made beautiful art that come from concrete! Embrace it, defend it and love what it is, a natural stone that u can manipulate to b whatever u want it to b :)

It's still a tough call for me. My company name still contains the word 'concrete', although I would love to change it - just don't know to what. I often get questions from people who have seen bad concrete, how is my concrete different. I usually say that it is not concrete, it is a mineral composite that looks like concrete. And then I explain how it is different and show a sample that is 40"*20", 1/4" thick, that I hold horizontally and throw around a little (no scrim). No doubt some people are not convinced, or decide that I am bull*hitting them. But most are convinced by the sample (I will post a photo soon).
Permalink Reply by Father V on February 12, 2012 at 2:52pm One of the reasons Roman concrete, the colosseum to be exact has lasted so very long is because of the volcanic ash in there design. If concrete today was not maintained the colosseum would out last it as well...
